Popular places to visit while camping In Corsica
The capital Ajaccio is well known for its vibrant waterfront that boasts a sweeping golden beach, lively restaurants, bars and cafes and pristine waters. Cultural highlights here include the family home of Napoléon Bonaparte, Ajaccio Cathedral and the Fesch Museum.
The second largest city is Bastia, a port in the north that exudes Corsican culture. The city features an interesting museum with the same name and the Église de Scala Santa Church. On the weekends at the Place St Nicholas, visitors can pick up a souvenir at the traditional flea market.
A long stretch of glorious sandy beach is the highlight of Calvi, a popular tourist destination that borrows much of its glitz and glamour from resorts on the French Riviera like Saint Tropez. A stroll around the quay offers you the chance to see fabulous super yachts of the super-rich. Points of notable interest in Calvi include Notre Dame de la Serra, the Citadel and Revellata lighthouse.
Away from the coast, the commune of Corte perches itself high in the mountains and is considered the heart of Corsica. While the town is extremely quaint, the true beauty of the area can be found in the wonderful landscapes surrounding it.
You can enjoy the slow pace of Corsican life when you spend a day at one of the many fishing villages on the coast. A brilliant example can be found at the pleasant town of Erbalunga, where you can get lost in the maze of tiny streets and alleys.
Things to do when camping in Corsica
As the beaches and waters of the sea are simply sublime, it will be hard to prise yourself away from the coast. A camping holiday in Corsica wouldn’t be complete without a day spent sunning yourself on beautiful beaches.
Whilst the island is home to numerous fantastic sandy bays, we’d recommend jumping in the car and visiting the fine sands on show at Calvi beach, Bodri beach, Bravone and Plage de Santa Giulia.
Along with scenic walks along the coast, the inner areas of Corsica are home to picturesque mountains and hillside trails. The best places to enjoy amazing ambles are Lac de Nino, Lac de Melu, d’Aitone forest and Bonifatu forest.
At the Reserve Naturelle de Scandola, you can enjoy wonderful boat trips to see the rugged sea cliffs. This area of outstanding beauty is accessed from Calvi or Porto, giving you the chance to see dolphins in their natural habitat.
