Lake Camping Holidays

We have a brilliant choice of lakeside camping resorts, from the beautiful banks of the Italian Lakes including Garda, Maggiore, Iseo and Idro to the dramatic scenery of Lake Thun and Interlaken. In France, enjoy aquatic activities aplenty at Lake Biscarrosse, scenic shore walking trails around Lake Aureilhan or the intimacy of nature at Lac de Chalain and Lac de Maury, as well as the stunning Lake of Sainte-Croix close to the River Verdon in Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur.

The best places to go camping by a lake

Whether you prefer relaxing by the water, engaging in thrilling aquatic activities or wandering around the shores, a lake camping holiday is a great choice.

In the northern reaches of Italy, the waters of Lake Garda, Maggiore, Idro and Iseo set the scene for picturesque escapes. Our favourite of the Italian lakes is Lake Garda, a beautiful body of water that offers so much to holidaymakers that stay here. Explore this popular destination while enjoying a break at Campsite Bella Italia, Campsite Eden, Campsite Weekend or Campsite Europa Silvella.

There is much to laud in the other great Italian Lakes, where holidays in the lap of nature can be enjoyed at Campsite Del Sol Village on Lake Iseo and Campsite Isolino on Lake Maggiore.

For jaw-dropping natural beauty, bracing alpine air and the chance to engage in a multitude on water sports, why not consider a holiday at the gorgeous Campsite Manor Farm in Interlaken. Ideally perched on the shores of Lake Thun, the resort is a sublime destination for lovers of a lakeside camping holiday.

In France, we have a broad selection of campsites that occupy settings directly on or close to lovely lakes. In the southwest of the country, Lake Biscarrosse continues to be popular with active families. Discover the delights of Biscarrosse on a stay at Campsite Mayotte Vacances or Campsite Domaine de la Rive.

One of our favourite places for lakeside camping is Provence, where we have a selection of fantastic campsites close to the Lake of Sainte-Croix. Direct access to the lake is available from 4* Campsite Le Coteau de la Marine, while you’ll be ideally placed for day trips if you stay at either Campsite Les Prés du Verdon or 4* Campsite Verdon Parc.

Several other good options for lake camping include Campsite l'Idéal close to Lake Annecy in the French Alps and Campsite Saint Disdille on the banks of Lake Geneva.

Things to do while enjoying a lakeside camping holiday

A camping holiday by the water opens up so many opportunities for activity, exploration and relaxation. No matter your preferred style of camping escape, a holiday by the lake can be positively amazing.

Lovers of water sports can indulge in all manner of aquatic activities such as windsurfing, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, jet skiing, parasailing, sailing, snorkelling, diving, pedalo boating, and of course, swimming. Lakes set in the heart of nature provide the perfect place for scenic strolls and hiking trips, as well as cycling excursions or pony trekking.

On larger lakes, like Lake Garda, holidaymakers can enjoy exploring picturesque shore towns that look out longingly over the water. Discover charming resorts by looping around the lake in your car or skim across the surface on a brilliant boating trip.
